# Creating a Placement in Connekt: Two Methods Explained

> Two ways to create a Placement in Connekt: convert from a submission (recommended) or create one directly with fee details and recruiter splits.

A Placement records a confirmed hire, including all fee and invoicing details. In Connekt there are two ways to create one: converting from an existing submission, or creating a placement directly from scratch. Both result in the same record — the difference is how much data Connekt pre-fills for you.

  <Tab title="Method 1: Convert from a Submission">
    Converting from a submission is the **recommended approach** because the candidate, job, and company are pre-filled automatically, reducing the risk of data entry errors.

    If the candidate's submission has reached **Offer Accepted** or **Hired** status, follow the steps in [Converting a Submission to a Placement](/submissions/converting-to-placement).

    <Tip>
      Always use this method when a submission already exists. It keeps the submission and placement linked, so you have a complete history from first contact to placement in one place.

  <Tab title="Method 2: Create Directly">
    Use this method when there is no existing submission record — for example, when a hire happened outside your normal recruitment pipeline.

    <Steps>
      <Step title="Go to Placements">
        Click **Placements** in the main navigation.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Click Create Placement">
        Click the **Create Placement** button at the top of the list.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Fill in the required fields">
        Complete the following mandatory fields:

        * **Candidate** — search for and select the candidate
        * **Job** — the role they were hired for
        * **Company** — the hiring business
        * **Start date** — the candidate's first day in the role
      </Step>

      <Step title="Add fee details">
        These fields are optional but strongly recommended for accurate commission tracking and invoicing:

        * **Placement fee amount** — the total fee billed to the client
        * **Currency**
        * **Billing country** — affects tax and invoicing rules
      </Step>

      <Step title="Set the invoice date">
        Enter the **invoice date** — this can differ from the start date. For example, you might invoice on the start date but set payment due 30 days later.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Configure recruiter splits">
        Assign a percentage to each recruiter who contributed to the deal. See [Deal Splits](/placements/deal-splits) for details on how auto-calculation and manual overrides work.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Upload documents">
        Attach the offer letter, signed contract, or any other relevant files if you have them available.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Fill in custom fields">
        Complete any custom fields your team has configured for your specific workflow.
      </Step>

      <Step title="Save">
        Click **Save** to create the placement.
      </Step>
    </Steps>

    The placement will appear in the **Placements list** and on the **pipeline board** immediately after saving.

## Recruiter Splits

Recruiter splits define how the placement fee is divided among the people who contributed to closing the deal. You can configure splits during placement creation or edit them at any time afterwards from the Placement record or the Commission Drawer on the pipeline board.

See [Deal Splits](/placements/deal-splits) for a full explanation of auto-calculation, manual overrides, and split categories.

## Documents

You can attach documents to a placement at creation time or add them later by opening the Placement record. Typical documents include:

* Offer letters
* Signed employment contracts
* Background check results
* Client-signed fee agreements
