# Deactivating and Reactivating a Team Member in Connekt

> Deactivate a team member to block login and free up a seat while keeping all their data intact, then reactivate them instantly when they return.

When someone leaves your team, moves to a different role, or takes an extended break, deactivating their account is the right move. Deactivation immediately blocks login access without deleting any of their work — every placement, candidate, note, and document they were involved with stays fully visible to the rest of the team. It also frees up their seat so you're not paying for access that isn't being used.

## Deactivating a team member

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Manage Users">
    Navigate to **Settings → Manage Users**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Find the user">
    Use the search bar to locate the team member, or scroll through the list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Open the options menu">
    Click the **three-dot options menu** next to their name.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Deactivate and confirm">
    Select **Deactivate** and confirm the action when prompted. The user's access is revoked immediately.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## What deactivation does

Deactivating a user is non-destructive. Here's exactly what happens:

* **Login is blocked immediately** — the user cannot access Connekt from the moment of deactivation.
* **All data is fully preserved** — placements, candidates they sourced, notes, emails, documents, and activity history remain intact and visible to the rest of the team.
* **The seat is freed** — deactivated users do not count toward your workspace seat limit, so you are not billed for them.

<Note>
  Deactivation does not delete or anonymise any records. Everything the user created or was involved with remains searchable and usable by active team members.
</Note>

## Reactivating a team member

If the person returns to the team, you can restore their access in seconds — they keep their existing account and all their previous data.

<Steps>
  <Step title="Go to Manage Users">
    Navigate to **Settings → Manage Users**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Filter to deactivated users">
    Use the **status filter** to display **Deactivated** users — they're hidden from the default active user list.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Reactivate the user">
    Find the team member and select **Reactivate** from their options menu.
  </Step>
</Steps>

The user can log in again immediately using their existing credentials. No new invitation or account setup is required.

<Tip>
  Deactivation is ideal for contractors, seasonal staff, or employees on extended leave. Deactivate when their engagement ends, reactivate when they return — their history is waiting for them exactly as they left it, and you avoid paying for unused seats in the meantime.
